About

Purpose
This website is primarily a blog about reviewing fiction but there is more to it than that. In the long run I want to use it to promote Wyoming as a bastion for paleoconservatism and create my own political micro-community. One day I wish to create a physical community. Ultimately I would like to found a town called Bastion. I know that could take decades and is unlikely to ever happen but it is a goal I intend to pursue my entire life and I’ve got plenty of time to work with. I’ll be content with establishing a virtual community to start. I also aim to encourage technological development and industry in Wyoming.

Why Wyoming?
I see Wyoming as the best state for me as a paleoconservative because it is the least populated, has the lowest population density and is one of the most conservative. It is the tenth largest and rich in natural resources making it ideal for growth. Its gun laws and tax rates are excellent. Rural areas tend to be more conservative and it is one of the most rural states. Small communities lacking in variety of amenities promote independence and community development. Its Old West history and cultural symbols such as cowboys and pioneering frontiersmen naturally promote conservatism. The economy being heavily reliant on coal, oil and natural gas helps protect against negative left wing environmentalism despite the state having so much highly prized wilderness.

Why fiction reviews?
There are many books I want to read and a review blog will motivate me to get around to starting and finishing them. At the same time I want to help like minded people find literature they’ll enjoy and I want to provide honest reviews free from liberal academic and social justice pretensions. I’m not going to say a book is good because of an appeal to authorities, the gender/sexuality/race of the author, its political correctness and sensitivity or its historical significance. I’ll say a book is good because I thought it was well written and I enjoyed it.

I also want to provide fuel to conservative and technological thought. Besides preserving and increasing conservatism in Wyoming I’d like to increase state technological development and industry by getting people to think about such things. I want Wyoming to be a center for scientific discovery and cutting edge manufacturing. As an example I’d like Wyoming to become a major player in the space industry.

What kind of fiction?
I’m interested in many kinds of literature but I mainly want to explore sci-fi initially. I like dark stories that are classified as horror, weird and post apocalyptic. I want to try lots of gothic, hardboiled, noir, western, sword and sandals/sorcery and historical works eventually. I’m also interested in lighthearted works and fairytales. I like stories that have clear, tangible and lethal threats and conflicts.
